Single payer rally and march

Come help tell Senator Wyden we want everybody in and nobody out!

Gather at the Federal Building (1220 SW 3rd Ave) at 11:45 to hear doctors, nurses and patients speak about our broken health care system and how we can fix it!

We will be highlighting the huge campaign contributions from the medical industrial complex to Senator Wyden, and demanding that he represent his constituents. The majority of the American people believe that the best solution to our health care crisis is to get the insurance companies out of the way by creating a single payer system. We will then march to the Regence Blue Cross/Blue Shield office at SW 2nd and Market to highlight Regence’s campaign contributions to Senator Wyden and their outrageous rate increases over the last two years.

  1. Comment from Anne:

Thanks for publicizing this. 75 supporters at the rally showed up. A giant check representing the health industry’s contributions to Congress was torn up.

There are two more events this week, another lunch hour protest at Wyden’s office Thursday 6-25 and Sen. Merkeley’s town hall on Saturday 6-27.

    Here are the details:

Town Hall with Senator Jeff Merkley
    Saturday, June 27, 2009 11:00 a.m.
David Douglas High School, South Cafeteria
    1400 SE 130th Ave., Portland

Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley will be holding a town hall at David Douglas High School. Single Payer Action and PDA want some committed individuals to attend this town hall and get Senator Merkley on record in front of his constituents about single payer. He has said in the past he would vote for single payer legislation, but has not even cosponsored S. 703, the Senate’s Single Payer bill. He has recently backed off of those comments.

Stand up and get the single payer message heard loud and clear. It will only take a few brave individuals to stand up and demand answers from Senator Merkley.

Single Payer Action will be there with video so we can get it on camera and stop the media blackout of our efforts.
