It’s Official: PPS to Pay Out $14.5 Million for Custodian Debacle

by Steve, July 23rd, 2007

A federal judge signed off on the class action settlement today. Do you think this might serve as a lesson learned for PPS as it refuses to continue negotiations with the DCU?

Don’t count on it. Portland Public Schools negotiators seem to be doing everything they can to break the union in this one.

PPS learn a lesson? Let’s not hold our breath. During her campaign for school board, Michele Schultz learned from members of the NW Labor Council that the School Board was (and perhaps still is) considering privatizing the cafeteria service! To her credit, Michele said she would never support such a move, especially after what happened with the custodians. Too bad the people who were already elected to the school board aren’t as smart as she is.
