Yeh, none of the school board members on this board would accept anything like that, are you serious? lol. That's so ridiculous. Plus who has the time? And why? It's the navy. They might as well ship you to Baghdad and wish you the best. lol.

These junkets are nothing new. A counselor at my high school (Silverton, Ore.) went to DC, Annapolis and Norfolk on an Navy-paid trip circa 1983-84. After she came back there were all sorts of Top Gun-type stuff in her office, including a photo of her on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.

Yep, I spent quite a bit of time in the counselors' offices.

I got these invitations regularly when I was on the school board. I didn't think it would be appropriate to accept, if I had wanted to, a paid junket. I believe current ethics rules prohibit accepting such a trip.

This could be a good trip for the right person to get a look into the Navy's latest promotional strategy. It would make an interesting story if someone was willing to write about it afterwards, telling the rest of us just how far the armed services are willing to go these days...

Recruits get an all-expenses paid* trip to Iraq to see for themselves.

*Post deployment mental health care not not necessarily included.
