I am very concerned about what is happening at Benson. As someone who teaches career and technical education in North Clackamas, I wanted to make sure you were aware of what we are trying to do to save programs like Benson's across the state and locally.

We are getting the data gathered to give to the legislature to possibly obtain long term funding for these kind of classes. Washington does it. California does it. Frankly, North Clackamas School District does it.

Please join us in making sure the legislature knows that CTE is an important component of a high school education. Feel free to drop me a line if you want to help by visiting the website.

Marcia,
I bet you are exactly right about "them" wanting to charterize Benson. It absolutely fits with the PPS/PSF/Gates/Broad Fountation agenda.

"They're" probably hoping someone is going to step up and open a charter school to replace Benson.

I was shocked to read in this morning's Oregonian that they eliminated the drafting/engineering program at Benson. This is a travesty. My husband, despite dropping out of high school his senior year and despite numerous economic downturns in auto manufacturing, has remained steadily employed for thirty years, due to his high school training in drafting and engineering. How can a technical school eliminate those programs?
